Cathy Hansen

Gladys and Willard were our neighbours on the Rideau for many, many years. Gladys was a perpetual optimist. Always a smile; never a complaint (unless Willard was doing something to irritate her, but even then she would end with a laugh) and never short of words. She grew the most amazing flowers. Zinnias became my favourite because Gladys grew them like a hedge; a wall of fabulous, vibrant colors with blossoms the size of saucers. She gave me zinnia seeds every year but mine were never as big and stunning as hers. I think that Willard must have created a botanical steroid concoction that Gladys applied to her flowers or maybe it was as simple as liquefied pike. Her beloved cats Romeo and Juliet were never far from her and I think they adored her as much as she adored them. She loved to talk about her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of whom she was so proud and you did her proud with your obvious devotion to her. May her lasting memory be a blessing to all those she knew. With my sincere condolences, Cathy Hansen
