Obituary for Norma Cheryl Saunders-Shepherd (Shepherd)

Norma Cheryl Saunders-Shepherd (Shepherd)
Saunders-Shepherd, Norma Cheryl
Cheryl Shepherd passed away peacefully in the early hours of November 9th, 2019 at the Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital – Perth Site. Cheryl is survived by her children Mithra (Mary), Charles (Mary) and Cheryl (John); grand-children Pierce, Jacob, Charles, William and Sophia; siblings Heather and Keith; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her mother Dorothy, father, beloved sister Patricia and brother Ernest. Cheryl was born in Derby, England on June 10th, 1946. She was the 4th of 5 children and was brought up in a single parent home after the age of 5. As a child, Cheryl was a good student who excelled in math and sciences and had natural skill with patterns. As an adult, it was amazing to watch her use this skill to easily create wedding dresses, costumes, upholster furniture, and make anything else she attempted. At 15, Cheryl left school to become a comptometrist, but she continued her education. In her mid-20s, Cheryl worked toward a BSc from The Open University in England, and later, as a single parent, she completed a BA in Economics from Carleton University. As a proud mother, grandmother and friend, it was not uncommon to hear Cheryl boasting about her loved ones' professional, educational or recreational achievements. At the same time, Cheryl was kind and generous. She always gave her home, time and resources to anyone who needed it, even if it left her with nothing. Throughout her life, Cheryl dreamed of becoming a writer. She spent the latter part of her life achieving this dream while studying the Bible. She spoke and wrote about God's presence in the world, how to combat evil, heal the sick and be a Servant of God. Her family appreciates the love and kindness of Cheryl's friends, who cared for her in the final years of her life. She was a fiercely independent woman and having support made it easier for us to respect her wish to remain in her home in Lanark. friends may gather at the St. James the Apostle Church, Perth on Friday November 15th, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. Reception will be held following the service in the Church hall. In honour of Cheryl, memorial donations can be made to The Table Community Food Centre in Perth (thetablecfc.org).
